Tony and I love venturing out to Durham. I feel like every time I head there, I find a place that I just fall in love with instantly. It’s nice to be pleasantly surprised and eating at the Federal (914 West Main Street, Durham, NC 27701) was no different. When I walked in, I almost walked back out. It looked like a nice bar to hang out at,and I loved the retro beer signs, but I thought it was just a normal bar and grill type setting. “Sorry Tony, it’s just a bar…” but I trailed off when something on the special board caught my eye. Osso Bucco? Sautéed root veggie? What had we stumbled upon? Continue reading

First things first, I sadly could not get a post up for last week’s episode due to major sinus issues and an overall week from hell. Long story short, our national nightmare is over and Alex is out of the running. Now, let’s focus on cutting the fat from the rest of this season…

Tony and I spent New Year’s 2009 at Downtown Raleigh’s Acorn Drop. It was fun….until the cold air sent us hailing a taxi and racing home to see the ball drop in Times Square. For 2010, we wanted to do something a little special. Continue reading

Well, we were hoping to go to the famed Roast Grill last week, but even though I watched it happening on the North Carolina Man v. Food episode, I am still not entirely convinced food is served there. I have never been by there when it is open, and when we went on Saturday, our plans were once again foiled as there was s a sign in the window stating that they were attending a private wedding. So, after grumbling about Roast Grill being involved in a government conspiracy that resembles the plot of Fringe, we decided on one of our favorites: Mo joe’s Burger Joint(620 Glenwood Ave Raleigh, NC 27603-1224).

Well, rather than mope around as we often do on Sunday afternoons, we decided to go hang out at our favorite bar (Manchester’s Grill 9101 Leesville Rd # 153, Raleigh) and watch the Packers play some football!

*a little note of admission here, as we were taking pics for this review, we were asked by one of the guys at Cosmic Cantina if he could use our pics for the site he was creating for the place. We’re flattered, but it had no bearing on our review*
If you love food, I can’t think of a better place to be in North Carolina than Chapel Hill/Carrboro. It’s really got it all; gourmet shopping at A Southern Season, great vegetarian meals at The Spotted Dog, lots of great local shoppes and restaurants. But let’s face it, I can’t do my grocery shopping at A Southern Season, my bank account would groan under the debt. Sometimes, you just need a good, fresh, and cheap meal. I remember lots of ramen-filled nights and how incredible good food on my meager work-study budget could be. Where, oh where was Cosmic Cantina at my school? Continue reading
