Out to the Market

When it comes to Brunch, it’s almost like a contact sport trying to beat the crowds in Raleigh (I must have sports on the brain, it is Super Bowl Sunday after all). If you don’t make that golden hour between church crowds and late Sunday risers, you could be waiting a long, long time for your pancakes. Add a hip little restaurant opening its doors for Brunch for the first time and you can see the dilemma. Luckily for Market (938 N. Blount Street, Raleigh, NC 27604), the food is so good, I would have waited a whole day for it.

Real Southern Comfort: Cheerwine Doughnuts

I grew up not too far away from the border of NC, so it amazes me that I lived so close, yet never had a cheerwine. So many wasted years…. Cheerwine is just one of those things that I think of when I think of North Carolina now. And in the world of breakfast pastries, Krispe Kreme stands head and shoulders above everything else, at least to my fellow Southerners and I. So when Tony uttered the four most magical words to me, “Cheerwine Krispe Kreme Doughnuts,” how could I resist?

If you want to brave the cold and really wants donuts…

then get thee to NC state campus tomorrow for the Krispe Kreme Challenge. This has been going on four six years now, where the brave and iron-stomached run two miles to the Krispe Kreme on Person Street, eat a dozen donuts, then run back. Unfortunately, Tony and I won’t be able to make it this year, but we’d love to hear some stories for the tough souls who make it through 🙂

So, what better meal to run away to for some post-holiday, back-to-work prepping than Sunday brunch? Plus, after living in Raleigh for almost 2 and a half years, it was time to get myself a meal at the well-known Irregardless Cafe.

A post Black Friday breakfast

We had a great Turkey day at Julia’s parents’ house complete with the bird, beer, and footballs (Go Packers!).   Honestly though, after the festivities of Turkey Thursday and the shopping of Black Friday (We were at the mall at 2:30am!),  last Saturday we were both ready for an easy and filling breakfast.  Now,  outside of the occasional eggs and bacon Julia and I are not huge breakfast people, so this was something of a special occasion for us.

InsideHumblePie2

Whether a great cure for the Sunday blues or just a way to shake off too much partying from the night before, Sunday brunch is a great invention.   Raleigh’s own Humble Pie (317 S Harrington St Raleigh, NC 27603-1817)  is a great place for Sunday brunch, regardless of the reason you need it.
