In case you haven’t noticed by the lagging number of blog posts, it’s already been a hectic holiday season. After a quick scan of the calendar, every weekend is filled with preparations, get-togethers, work functions, etc. So, the problem is what to do when you get home. My first instinct when I get home is to crash, throw on Netflix, and throw myself at a bag of chips until I fall asleep. Not exactly creative, so I’m trying to grab inspiration wherever I can get it, even if it means embracing ingredients that normally don’t scream “delicious!” to me.

So, I got a little inspired by our last meatless Monday, so I started looking into Vegetarian recipes that were still homey and classic. Veal or Chicken Parmesan has always been one of my favorite dishes, but I’ve never tried the eggplant variety. I’ve had bad luck with eggplant dishes (like my failed attempt at ratatouille), but after a busy weekend, a nice filling Italian dish seemed like just the trick. Continue reading

Before we start, one sigh of relief. Thankfully, last week’s producer-driven stunt of pea puree-gate was given little screen time this week. Ed and Alex commented on it once each at the beginning and we were done. Top Chef, you should know better, save the manufactured drama for “Real Housewives” or the other Bravo ilk.

A week ago, one of my co-workers alerted me to an incredible deal; Dino’s Capri restaurant (6325 Falls of Neuse Rd., Raleigh, NC 27615) was holding a special night where their menu would be at 1964 prices. Now, I love Italian food, so hearing I could get a full meal with pocket change was too good to pass up. However, as the state got a snow smackdown, it seemed like we’d need to rough it out for good food. That would be the theme for the night unfortunately.

Tony and I wanted to let everyone know about a little shindig happening in North Raleigh tomorrow at Capri Restaurant (6325 Falls of Neuse Rd., Raleigh, NC 27615). They’re hosting a special night where they are offering 1969 prices for classic Italian dishes. Who can resist, especially when it’s so grim and snowy outside? For those who don’t want to bundle up, we’ll be giving our own review during the week. Here’s a link to their site http://www.caprirest.com/files/4x6_postcard_1969.jpg

My typical birthday dinner is a night out, but I wanted to do something for Tony’s 31st birthday (yep, he’s getting to be an old man). I decided to tackle two of his favorite things; carrot cake and Spaghetti alla Carbonara. My attempts were both disappointing and delicious. Continue reading

A couple of months ago, I made a resolution to start cooking more. I was the queen of the freezer and microwave, it was a little embarrassing that I was in my 20s and couldn’t put together a meal that consisted of more than “lift plastic cover, heat for 5 minutes.” So, a few times a week, I try my hand at putting together a meal from scratch.
