Last Thursday was the Triangle Tweet-up at Cary’s Lucky 32 (7307 Tryon Road
Cary, NC 27518). As always, the event was hosted by the lovely ladies @andreaweigl and @durhamfoodie. Tony and I thought that the Moldy Peaches’ song “Lucky Number Nine” should have been co-opted for the event, but I guess we wouldn’t have been able to get the rights in time. Luckily, the food there was so good, it didn’t need fanfare.

Today is the first day of Autumn. Goodbye Grilling out, goodbye watermelon, bright citrus, and roasted corn. However, hellooooooo soul-warming food. I love Fall, because we get to switch gears, throw on a sweater, and baby, get a stew goin’ (can you tell I just finished an “Arrested Development” marathon?). But, I don’t want to throw away the flavors of summer yet, especially when we’re still surviving 90 degree days.

So, I got a little inspired by our last meatless Monday, so I started looking into Vegetarian recipes that were still homey and classic. Veal or Chicken Parmesan has always been one of my favorite dishes, but I’ve never tried the eggplant variety. I’ve had bad luck with eggplant dishes (like my failed attempt at ratatouille), but after a busy weekend, a nice filling Italian dish seemed like just the trick. Continue reading

So, I know a few people who are now embracing Meatless Mondays (including our friends at Triangle Good Eats). Meatless Monday sounds like a good idea to me, but ever since my daliance with Vegetarianism (the hardest 12 months of my life), it’s still a little hard for me to imagine a filling, healthy, and satisfying meal without meat. Even my mushroom risotto needs chicken broth!

Well, don’t ever bet money on what I think this season. Amanda and Stephen have had targets on their backs since day one, yet manage to slip into the top three for the quickfire (Stephen) and surpass Kelly’s elimination challenge porterhouse dish by actually serving the cut off the bone (Amanda). Instead, it was my sad little dark horse who was on the chopping block this week.

In case you can’t tell from the relative silence on my part, May is a crazy, crazy month. Lots of birthdays, anniversaries, Mother’s day, Tony has started a new job, and, with the warm weather, lots of outdoor festivities to attend. So, in the midst of this madness, my desire to cook has reached epic lows. My couch has been my permanent place of residence when I finally get home. Luckily, I have found some inspiration, courtesy of my local library *cue cheesy 80s music and thumbs up*

Some people say that even when Pizza is bad, it’s still pretty good. But, in my experience, this is sometimes brutally untrue. It’s hard to get that perfect combination of crispy yet doughy crust, flavorful sauce, and well-prepared toppings. Lilly’s pizza has come close (Tony loves their crust), Mellow Mushroom was a bitter disappointment (although it’s a prime people-watching spot), but there hasn’t been a pizza place that has wowed me. With that said, I was bracing myself when we went to Moonlight Pizza last weekend…
