Moonlight over Raleigh: Moonlight Pizza Company

Some people say that even when Pizza is bad, it’s still pretty good. But, in my experience, this is sometimes brutally untrue. It’s hard to get that perfect combination of crispy yet doughy crust, flavorful sauce, and well-prepared toppings.  Lilly’s pizza has come close (Tony loves their crust), Mellow Mushroom was a bitter disappointment (although it’s a prime people-watching spot), but there hasn’t been a pizza place that has wowed me. Raleigh is not what you would consider of a hotbed of pizza related activity, and although I have enjoyed occasionally eating at Mellow Mushroom, I have not been blown away by the pizza I’ve had in the area.  A couple weeks ago I was hoping that we would change this with our meal at Lilly’s (1813 Glenwood Ave Raleigh, NC) which I had heard from several reliable sources was the best pizza in the area.

Where everybody knows your name: Manchester’s Grill

When we moved to North Carolina, one of the first things I wanted to do was find some new stomping grounds. There were some great bars and restaurants that became like a second home in the cities I’ve lived in, and two years later, I still miss them. Manchester’s Grill (9101 Leesville Road, Raleigh, 27613) is one place though that has slowly become of my haunts. It’s not hip or fashion forward, but it has great food, great drinks, and a regular set of characters sitting at the bar. Continue reading
