A week ago, one of my co-workers alerted me to an incredible deal; Dino’s Capri restaurant (6325 Falls of Neuse Rd., Raleigh, NC 27615) was holding a special night where their menu would be at 1964 prices. Now, I love Italian food, so hearing I could get a full meal with pocket change was too good to pass up. However, as the state got a snow smackdown, it seemed like we’d need to rough it out for good food. That would be the theme for the night unfortunately.

Tony and I wanted to let everyone know about a little shindig happening in North Raleigh tomorrow at Capri Restaurant (6325 Falls of Neuse Rd., Raleigh, NC 27615). They’re hosting a special night where they are offering 1969 prices for classic Italian dishes. Who can resist, especially when it’s so grim and snowy outside? For those who don’t want to bundle up, we’ll be giving our own review during the week. Here’s a link to their site http://www.caprirest.com/files/4x6_postcard_1969.jpg

The holidays have been hectic for Tony and I. Family, gift-buying, and work have led to a retreat to comfort food. So, what better meal to run away to for some post-holiday, back-to-work prepping than Sunday brunch? Plus, after living in Raleigh for almost 2 and a half years, it was time to get myself a meal at the well-known Irregardless Cafe.

I think one of the first places we got to know when we first moved to Raleigh in 2007 was Cameron Village. We always enjoyed going to the library there, North American Video and Fresh Market for a soda or a quick sweet snack from their bakery. It wasn’t long after this that we first stumbled upon the Village Deli (500 Daniels Street
Raleigh, NC), but at the time we were not particularly impressed and we most likely chose another nearby eatery. So, the other day we were looking for a great place to have a pastrami sandwich and we once again happened upon the village deli, so we decided we would give it a swing.

I’m a sucker for a good burger. It’s been our mission since we’ve moved to Raleigh to find the best burger in town and we’ve made some pretty good discoveries (Char-Grill, Mojoe’s) and still have a lot to try (the burger at Porter’s is supposed to be legendary). So, imagine my happiness when we heard that a new burger joint, Uncle Fatty’s Drive-in (Woodburn Road, Cameron Village). Cameron Village has always been a little boring when it comes to food for me, how many “upscale” bar and grills can one place have? I think they’re trying to revitalize its culinary side, a few new restaurants have popped up. But it was Uncle Fatty’s that really picqued my interest. I mean, with a name like that, who could resist…right?

Since we’ve moved to North Carolina, I have been touting the superiority of North Carolina to Tony. He’s a northernor who didn’t grow up with the sweet, tangy vinegary taste of NC BBQ. We’ve been trying to find the best North Carolina barbecue in the Triangle area. Lexington is of course the barbecue mecca in North Carolina, but the Triangle has had a lot to offer too. Three places stand out in particular, the ritzy The Pit, Allan and Sons in Chapel Hill (that will be a future adventure), and Backyard Barbecue in Durham. Backyard Barbecue has two locations, one of which was featured on “Man vs. Food,” so we had to see if it was worth the hype. Continue reading

Writing about food has made me appreciate a good meal. It’s also made me more aware of when eating out is just outright terrible. As much as I’ve had some wonderful food, it’s the bad moments that have been the most memorable…and most fun to talk about. Continue reading

Tony and I have been waiting patiently for a long time to get to eat at Roast Grill. Seeing it featured on one of my favorite food shows, “Man vs. Food,” made the wait even more excruciating. It’s been weeks, maybe even months. You’d think that we were on a waiting list for some fancy restaurant, not hot dogs. The problem was that the legendary Roast Grill (7 S West St., Raleigh, NC 27603-1849) has crazy hours and every time we went, it was closed. We showed up two Saturdays in a row and they were closed each time for a wedding. I love roasted hot dogs, it seems like you only get the boiled kind around here, so I wanted to cry out of disappointment. The thing we were most afraid of was after the wait, would these hot dogs be worth it?

When my in-laws came to town, they wanted to go out for Greek food. I went into a panic going to Taverna Agora (6101 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27612-2613) for the first time; a new restaurant, new food, in front of two people that I really wanted to impress. Luckily for me, I loved every bite there and couldn’t wait to go back. The timing was perfect too, since last Saturday was Greek night! Continue reading

Tony and I had a one-day vacation last week. Work’s been crazy for both of us, hence the radio silence this week, so we needed to get away (we’ll post about our trip to Winston-Salem/Greensboro later this week). Just to show sometimes you can get away and stay home too, we came back and went out for Sushi at Haru Sushi (2603 Glenwood Ave
Raleigh, NC 27608-1044). Continue reading
