Triangle Tweet-up: Six Plates

There’s a ton of reasons Tony and I loved the semi-monthly Triangle Tweet-up. We get to see friends, make some new ones, and get to try food at new and interesting places around the area. This month’s tweet-up was no exception, I’ve been dying to go to Six Plates (2812 Erwin Road, Durham, NC 27705) and the combination of food and friends made it a great night and a very much needed break from all of the holiday prep. Lucky 32, Hooray!

Last Thursday was the Triangle Tweet-up at Cary’s Lucky 32 (7307 Tryon Road
Cary, NC 27518).  As always, the event was hosted by the lovely ladies @andreaweigl and @durhamfoodie. Tony and I thought that the Moldy Peaches’ song “Lucky Number Nine” should have been co-opted for the event, but I guess we wouldn’t have been able to get the rights in time. Luckily, the food there was so good, it didn’t need fanfare.

O Canada ya’all: Poutine in North Carolina

A couple of weeks ago after a night out (beer may have been involved) with my coworkers, I was up late on twitter after Julia went to bed.  I mentioned casually that I had been to Backyard Bistro, and although I had not had a chance to taste it, I had seen that they were apparently serving poutine.  Poutine is a French-Canadian bar food dish that is a plate of  fries topped with gravy and cheese curds.  There was a very quick response by a couple of twitter friends who were both very excited by the prospect of getting a chance to have poutine down here in Oak City.  I first learned about Poutine on a trip to Toronto in Grad school where I sampled it at a couple of different places and really, really liked it.  I was very excited to find that a couple of other locals shared my enthusiasm for Canadian bar food, so we got together a little meetup and we were on our way. Foodie Tweetup at Fearrington

We were definitely excited by the prospect of a Triangle foodie tweetup, but nothing could have prepared us for the great time we had at Wednesday’s event.  Neither Julia nor myself had ever been to Pittsboro, so we had to rely on our trusty GPS to get us where we were going.  Unfortunately, upon leaving work, we found that the address on the tickets was not a valid address in our GPS (perhaps a sign that we need to update it).  So, we had Tom Tom navigate to the center of Pittsboro and hoped for the best.  Luckily, the route took us right by Fearrington which we realized was an ideallic little farm + country inn. Happy Restaurant Week

Hey everybody, sorry we have been super light on our updates lately.  I just got a new job and all of the chaos that goes along with that has kept us away from food related writing.  Anyways, as the title suggests, this week is restaurant week in our fair City of Oaks.  In case you are unfamiliar, 65 local restaurants will offer an affordable prix fixe during this week, so get you should definitely get out and try some of our local cuisine.  I also wanted to remind you that Wednesday is the foodie tweetup event in Goldsboro, and I hope to see you all there.   Oh, and I just noticed there is less than 24 hrs left to buy tickets for that, so you should act fast if you want to go.  Regular programming to resume soon, I swear…
